About the Series"Flavors of Frogtown" celebrates the diverse culinary traditions and cultural heritage of our community through a series of monthly gatherings. Each event focuses on a different culinary technique—from roasting to pickling to preserving—and invites participants to share their family recipes and the stories behind them.
Objective: This series aims to do more than just share cooking skills. It's a vibrant forum for weaving together our community's stories, culinary wisdom, and artistic expression. By participating, community members contribute to a living cookbook that captures the essence of Frogtown’s diverse identity.

How to Participate:
Join us at Frogtown Farm for our enriching monthly gatherings or contribute online by uploading your recipes, photos, and drawings. These sessions and your contributions are designed to bridge community, culture, and cuisine, celebrating our diverse local heritage. Whether in person or online, your participation enriches our collective experience.

Recipes: Share your cherished family or cultural recipes at our gatherings. Whether they're time-honored traditions or innovative dishes that spotlight local ingredients, your recipes are a vital part of our community tapestry.

Thursday, July 18 | 6:00 PM- 8:30 PM
Join Wilderness Inquiry, and Executive Director, Chef Lachelle Cunningham, on the Farm for an enlightening evening of foraging and backcountry cooking techniques. This hands-on session offers a unique opportunity to learn how to identify, harvest, and prepare wild edibles right from your local environment. Participants will gain practical skills in foraging and experience the joy of cooking and sharing a meal made from ingredients found on the farm and surrounding natural areas.
What to Bring:
Recipes: Stinging nettle soup, wild garlic pesto, herby or wild salads, condiments, elderflower cordial, berry compote, wild berry jams, herbal teas, or other recipes integrating foraged foods
Photos/Drawings: Pictures showing family or cultural traditions of foraging or using wild foods in meals.
Tools/Items: Tools used in foraging and preparing wild edibles.

Explore the art of pickling with Natural Roots Wellness. This session will introduce participants to various methods of pickling vegetables, an excellent way to preserve the harvest while enhancing flavors. Attendees will learn about the benefits of pickled foods and prepare their own jars of pickled vegetables to take home. This hands-on workshop is ideal for discovering the vibrant tastes and health benefits that pickling can offer.
What to Bring:
Recipes: Bring recipes for traditional pickles like dill cucumbers, pickled carrots, Korean kimchi, Mexican escabeche, or Eastern European pickled cabbage.
Photos/Drawings: Visuals of family or cultural events centered around pickling processes.
Tools/Items: Any special tools used in pickling, such as canning jars, tongs, or specific cutting tools for preparing vegetables.

Celebrate the culmination of our "Flavors of Frogtown" series this season at the Harvest Festival with a canning and preserving workshop. This session will showcase methods to preserve a variety of fruits and vegetables. Participants will engage in making jams, jellies, and pickles, learning about safe canning practices and the satisfaction of creating homemade preserves. This festive day will also feature the unveiling of the artists’ work and community cookbook, filled with recipes and stories collected throughout the series.
What to Bring:
Recipes: Apple butter, mango chutney, tomato salsa, or pickled beets, preserves, relishes, jams, jellies, pickles and canned goods
Photos/Drawings: Visuals of the canning process or family traditions.
Tools/Items: Tools used in canning and preserving.
